Get Gurukul Typing Skill Running — Step by Step
Follow these steps in order. Everything here also works in Hindi — use the language buttons below whenever you like.
What You Need Before You Start
Gurukul Typing Skill runs on Windows 7 (with Service Pack 1), Windows 8.1, Windows 10, or Windows 11.
Your computer needs at least 2 GB RAM — the app is built to run smoothly even on the basic computers found in typing centres.
You need about 100 MB of free space on your PC.
You need an internet connection to download the app, create your account, and log in for the first time. After that, you can practise offline for several days.
Don't worry about installing anything separately — the setup file installs everything the app needs by itself, including a small update called .NET Framework 4.8.Download the App
Open your web browser (like Chrome or Edge) and go to the Gurukul Typing Skill download page.
Click the 'Download for Windows' button. The file starts downloading — it is usually saved in your 'Downloads' folder.
You do NOT need to create an account or log in just to download the app.
The file is large (over 100 MB), so on a slow connection it can take a few minutes. Let it finish downloading completely before you open it.Windows May Show a Warning — Don't Worry
When you open the downloaded file, Windows may show a blue screen that says 'Windows protected your PC'.
This happens because our app is new and does not yet have Microsoft's official signing certificate (we are in the process of getting one). It does NOT mean the app is unsafe.
Click 'More info' — a new line appears. Then click 'Run anyway' to continue.
Your antivirus (for example Quick Heal or K7) may show a similar warning for the same reason. If it does, choose 'Allow' or 'Run anyway' there too.
Only download Gurukul Typing Skill from our official website — that is the safest way to make sure you have the genuine app.Installing the App
Double-click the downloaded setup file to start the installer.
Follow the on-screen steps — usually clicking 'Next' and then 'Install' is enough. You don't need to change any settings.
At one point you will see a message like 'Optimizing for faster startup'. This can take a few minutes and the screen may look like it has stopped moving — that is completely normal. Please do NOT close the installer or restart your computer during this step.
Once installation finishes, you will see a Gurukul Typing Skill shortcut on your desktop.
If the 'Optimizing' step is taking a long time, just wait — closing it partway through can cause problems that are harder to fix than waiting a few extra minutes.Create Your Account (on the Website)
Account creation happens on our website, not inside the app. When you open the app and click 'Sign Up' or 'Register', it opens your web browser automatically.
Fill in your details on the website and submit the sign-up form.
We send a verification email to the address you used. Open your inbox — and check your Spam/Junk folder too, in case it lands there.
Click the verification link in the email. If you accidentally requested the email more than once, always use the link from the most recent (latest) email — older links stop working.
You must verify your email before you can log in to the app for the first time.Signing In for the First Time
Open the app and enter the email and password you used to create your account. There is no OTP — just your email and password.
The first time you log in, the app links your account to this computer. This means your account can only be actively used on one device at a time.
You can change your device (for example, if you get a new computer) up to 2 times a year. To change your device, please contact our support team on WhatsApp — it is not a setting you can change yourself inside the app.
This one-device rule exists to keep your account and your progress safe — it stops your account from being shared or misused.
Make sure you are logging in on the computer you plan to use regularly, since switching devices is limited.Hindi Typing Setup
The Hindi fonts you need — Kruti Dev, DevLys, and Mangal — install automatically with the app. You do not need to download or install any font separately.
Important: while typing Hindi in the app, keep your Windows keyboard language set to English (the small 'ENG' shown in the bottom-right corner of your screen).
The app itself converts your English keystrokes into Hindi characters (Kruti Dev–style typing) — you do not need to switch Windows to a Hindi keyboard.
If Hindi text looks wrong or like strange symbols anywhere on your screen, the most common cause is the Windows keyboard language being switched to Hindi by mistake. Switch it back to English (ENG).Word & Excel Tests Need Microsoft Office
Some government exams include a Word or Excel typing/efficiency test. To practise these on Gurukul Typing Skill, you need a genuine copy of Microsoft Word and Excel already installed on the same computer.
Office 2007 or newer works, but Office 2010 or newer is recommended for the smoothest experience.
Regular typing tests and lessons (English and Hindi) do NOT need Microsoft Office — only the Word/Excel efficiency tests do.
If you don't have Microsoft Office, you can still use every lesson and typing test in the app — the Word/Excel efficiency tests will just stay unavailable until Office is installed.Still Stuck? We're Here to Help
Before contacting us, a few quick things to check: Is your internet working? Did you click 'Run anyway' fully on the SmartScreen warning? Did you check your Spam folder for the verification email? Are you using the latest verification link, not an older one?
If you see a message saying your account is already in use on another device, that is the one-device rule explained above — please contact support to change your device.
