How the character drill works
Pick a set & layout
Choose vowels, consonants, matras, conjuncts or a mixed set, in KrutiDev or Mangal (Unicode). Then press Start.
Type one character at a time
The current Hindi character is highlighted. Type it and the drill moves to the next — a wrong key counts as an error but the stream keeps flowing.
Watch your stats live
Signs (correct characters), WPM, Errors and Accuracy update as you type, then you get a clean result summary when the timer ends.
Why practise Hindi typing character by character?
Hindi typing on the KrutiDev layout is hardest at the level of single characters — matras like ि and ी, half-letters, and conjuncts such as प्र or क्ष map to non-obvious key combinations. A character drill isolates exactly these, so you build accurate muscle memory before tackling full passages.
Each round shows a flowing stream of characters with the current target highlighted. You type it, it advances, and your stats update instantly. Because the drill marks a wrong key as an error but still moves on, you keep a steady rhythm instead of getting stuck — and your accuracy honestly reflects every mistake. Start with vowels and consonants, then progress to matras and conjuncts, and finally the mixed set for an exam-style challenge.
When single characters feel automatic, switch to the full Hindi paragraph typing test to measure your real exam speed.

What is a Hindi character typing test?
It is a character-by-character drill: instead of typing a whole paragraph, you type single Hindi characters (vowels, consonants, matras and conjuncts) one at a time. The current character is highlighted and the drill advances as soon as you type it — ideal for building muscle memory of the KrutiDev keyboard.
Is this the same as the paragraph Hindi typing test?
No. The paragraph test scores you on a full passage; this character drill focuses on individual letters and conjuncts so you can master each key. Use the character drill first to learn the layout, then move to the paragraph test for exam-style practice.
How are Signs, WPM and Accuracy calculated?
Signs is the number of correct characters you typed. WPM is character-based (correct characters ÷ 5, per minute) — the standard "5 characters = 1 word" rule. Accuracy is correct characters ÷ (correct + errors).
Does it support KrutiDev?
Yes. KrutiDev is the primary mode — characters render in the Kruti Dev 010 font exactly like the government-exam keyboard. A Mangal (Unicode) mode is also available if you practise Inscript typing.
Is it free and does it work on mobile?
It is completely free and runs in your browser with no login. It is designed for a real desktop or laptop keyboard; on mobile you can still try it, but a physical keyboard gives an accurate result.
