Unicode output, Remington keys: The key positions match the Remington typewriter layout, but the text produced is real Unicode Devanagari (Mangal) — so it copies and displays correctly anywhere, unlike legacy Kruti Dev/DevLys font text.

Remington / GAIL Keyboard — Common Questions
What is the Mangal Remington / GAIL keyboard?
It is a Unicode Hindi keyboard that outputs real Devanagari in the Mangal font, but arranges its keys on the familiar Remington typewriter layout instead of Inscript. GAIL and some other central/High Court exams specify this Remington-style Unicode keyboard.
Are the CBI and GAIL keyboard layouts the same?
Yes — the CBI and GAIL variants of the Remington-style Unicode keyboard use the same key mapping, so practising on one prepares you for the other. Always confirm the exact keyboard named in your notification.
How is this different from Kruti Dev, which is also Remington?
Both use the Remington key positions, but Kruti Dev is a legacy (non-Unicode) font while Mangal Remington/GAIL outputs Unicode Devanagari. The keystrokes feel similar, but the underlying text is different: Unicode copies, searches and displays correctly everywhere, whereas legacy-font text only renders with its own font installed.
How is it different from Mangal Inscript?
Both produce Unicode Mangal text, but the keyboards differ: Inscript (IS 13194) is a phonetic-style government-standard layout, while Remington/GAIL follows the typewriter arrangement. Choose whichever your exam specifies — SSC/UP commonly use Inscript, GAIL and some others use Remington.
How do I enable Remington-style Unicode Hindi typing?
The Mangal font is already in Windows. Add a Hindi Remington (typewriter) keyboard from Settings → Time & Language → Language, or use the tool your exam specifies, then switch to it with Windows + Space before typing.
Which finger should I use for each key?
Use the standard touch-typing finger positions — the finger for each physical key is the same as English typing, regardless of the Hindi character it produces. Toggle the finger-guide view on the keyboard above to see the colour-coded finger for every key.
